Data recovery
Computers that won’t start
Recover documents and photos from Macs and PCs that won’t boot, have a failing drive, or got a spill.
Broken & water-damaged phones
Get photos, contacts and messages off phones with broken screens or water damage, when the phone can be powered on.
External & USB drives
Recover files from external hard drives and USB drives that stopped showing up or making strange noises.
Backup setup
Computers
Time Machine for Macs, File History and OneDrive for Windows, plus external drives, set up to run automatically.
Phones & tablets
iCloud and Google backups, plus Google Photos or iCloud Photos so every picture is saved.
Small businesses
Automatic backups for workstations and shared files, with an off-site copy, so one failure doesn’t stop your business.
What affects recovery
Built-in storage
On most Macs made since 2018, newer thin laptops and all phones, storage is built into the board. If the board fails, recovery is much harder, which is why backups matter.
Stop using a failing drive
Clicking, grinding or freezing? Turn it off. Every hour a failing drive runs can make recovery harder.
Act fast after water
Turn the device off, don’t charge it, and bring it in quickly. Corrosion lowers the odds every day.
Backup & recovery FAQs
Can you recover data from a computer that won’t turn on?
Often, yes. We diagnose the problem for free and give you a written quote for recovery before any work. Older computers with removable drives are usually easier to recover than newer models with storage built into the board.
Can you get photos off a broken or water-damaged phone?
Sometimes. If the phone can be powered on, even temporarily, we can often move your photos and files off it. Bring water-damaged phones in quickly, because corrosion lowers the odds every day.
How much does data recovery cost?
It depends on the device and the damage. Diagnosis is free, and we give you a written quote before we start. If recovery isn’t possible, we’ll tell you.
What’s the best way to back up?
Follow the 3-2-1 rule: 3 copies of important files, on 2 different kinds of storage, with 1 off-site or in the cloud. We can set it up so it runs automatically.
Do you set up backups for businesses?
Yes. We set up automatic backups for small-business computers and shared files, on-site at $200 per hour or in our shop.
